Du chant pour tous !

The Choralies is a non-profit, grass-roots festival. Participation in the workshops is reserved for members of the non-profit association À Cœur Joie (or À Cœur Joie International or “European Choral Association – Europa Cantat”). If you are not already a member, membership information is provided below.

General Information

Registration

Online registration at www.choralies.fr

The Choralies is a non-profit, grass-roots festival. Participation in the workshops is reserved for members of the non-profit association À Cœur Joie (or À Cœur Joie International or “European Choral Association – Europa Cantat”). If you are not already a member, membership information is provided below.

After entering your profile, the duration of your stay, your choice of workshops, catering and accommodation, you can proceed to the secure online payment of the deposit. The deposit is 200€ (or full price if under 200€) plus the membership fee if required. Balance has to be paid before 1st of June 2022.

If you have difficulties using online applications, À Cœur Joie will kindly assist you. You can reach an assistant at +334 72 19 83 40.

Due to the regional climate as well as the nature and cadence of the workshops, kindly note that good physical condition and a positive spirit are needed to be able to take full advantage of your time at the Choralies.

Registered participants benefit from the following during the length of their registered activities:

  • access to their assigned workshops and related activities,
  • entrance to evening programmes at the Théâtre Antique,
  • tickets to afternoon concerts, as per regulations defined in the Concerts-Tickets section,
  • additional services, if booked (accommodation, catering).

Registration is for a period of 1 to 8 consecutive days. It is therefore not possible to register for two periods separated by an absence (first two days plus the last day for example).

A “Day at the Choralies” starts with the evening at the Théâtre Antique on the day before workshop begin, followed by the workshop and the afternoon concert for each registered workshop day (e.g. workshop from 4 to 6 August = 3 Choralies Days = evening of 3 August in the Théâtre Antique through to afternoon concert on 6 August).

If your package includes the day of 7 August (night off for the Théâtre Antique), you may attend the evening of your last day instead.

Price categories are based on the participant’s age on 1st September 2021 for rates pertaining to activities, services and membership.

For access to the workshops, the reference age is based on the participant’s age on 3rd August 2022.

Participants must be 16 years old or older to partake in workshops, except for junior workshops (see ages defined in each workshop).

I want to sing – The Choralist

The Choralist participates in a choral workshop in the morning and some afternoons. S/he has access to concerts, conferences or activities in the afternoon and to the evening concert in the Théâtre Antique.

I want to help – The Volunteer

Volunteers participate in organizing the festival. They are divided into about twenty services and ensure a warm welcome, quality of service and conviviality.

See the volunteer section.

I’m coming with a Choralist – The Accompanying Person

For those who want to accompany a registered Choralist throughout the festival, but do not participate in any workshops. The accompanying person has access to activities as well as evening and afternoon concerts. This category only applies to the ”Complete Choralies” package.

Simplify your life! If you form a group of four or more individual choral singers, one of you can collect documents and badges for the whole group on registration day (saves time and energy). On each registration form, please indicate the same group name and the name of the person in charge of the group.

Youth Choirs

The Choralies offer special conditions and certain workshops for youth groups. Organise your stay with an all-inclusive offer: workshop participation, accommodation in a group tent and catering. The singers can participate in workshops, and your choir can perform in an afternoon concert.

If interested, please contact us at clabrosse@choralies.org

Minors (under the age of 18 as of 03/08/2022) can register individually provided they are under the responsibility of a parent or an adult present in Vaison-la-Romaine over the same period. Written parental consent must be provided (model available here).

Junior Workshop participants must also provide a passport photo and any medical certificates that may be useful for the staff (treatments, allergies, etc.).

A Cœur Joie membership is a pre-requisite to participate in the Choralies workshops and allows you to be covered by A Cœur Joie’s insurance policy.

Exempt from this membership requirement:

  • direct members of associations in the À Cœur Joie International network
  • direct members of the European Choral Association – Europa Cantat (ECA-EC)
  • Choralists who register for a maximum of two consecutive days
  • participants (accompanying persons, volunteers) who do not attend any workshops

Individuals who are not members of À Cœur Joie must pay a membership fee that entitles them to all the services of the association (including a tax receipt) for the 2021/2022 season.

The membership fee is 62€ for adults and 32€ for minors.

Members of a member choir benefit from a preferential membership fee (43€ adults, 22€ for 18 to 25 year olds, 0€ for minors). Please contact the person in charge of your choir.

Covid 19

The programme of activities and registration modalities are based on health data and legal constraints available in the fall of 2021.

However, please note the possibility of an extension or application of legal constraints covering the summer of 2022 and for which we cannot know all the modalities at this time, such as:

  • Control of a sanitary pass (vaccination, negative test, etc.)
  • Possible mandatory mask mandate

Kindly take this hypothesis into consideration when you register. We are constantly monitoring related developments in order to reduce the risk level to a minimum for Choralies participants. If necessary, changes in the programme, audience numbers or concerts may be decided in the months leading up to the festival. We thank you in advance for your trust and understanding should changes affect your participation.

A refund will be provided if we are unable to accommodate you in at least one of your three workshop choices, or if the festival is cancelled (excluding membership fees).

Modification or Withdrawal

Changes to registration require specific processing. A 20€ fee will apply to any request for modification of your choices.

All cancellations must be notified by mail or e-mail to the À Cœur Joie secretariat. Whatever the cause, cancellation fees will be retained according to the following scale, applicable to the total amount due with a minimum charge of 20€.

Cancellation notification% retained (min. 20€)
Before 31 March 202210%
Before 31 June 202230%
Before 31 July 202250%
After 31 July 2022100%

NB: The membership fee for À Cœur Joie is retained in full, regardless of the date of cancellation.

Lost badge

The festival badge provides access to all the services that the festival-goer has subscribed to. It is important to wear your badge at all times; take care not to lose it. Each request to duplicate a badge will be charged 20€.

Image rights

By registering, the participant or his/her legal representative tacitly authorises A Cœur Joie to use  photos, videos or sound media on which s/he may appear. This may be used for communication purposes on all types of media. The association declines all responsibility in case of any misuse by a third party. It expressly refrains from using photographs in any way that might infringe on privacy or reputation.

Behaviour

Each participant in the Choralies must behave in a respectful manner towards others and towards the image of the festival. A breach of common good conduct will be subject to a warning from the organizers. At the organizers’ discretion, anyone who continues to engage in misconduct, or who fails to comply with health and safety regulations may be permanently excluded from the Choralies.

Workshops

When you register, you must indicate three choices of workshops or workshop combinations (compatible with your arrival date and the length of your stay) in order of preference. You can register for a period of 1 to 8 days.

The organizers will do their best to meet your preferences based on the number of available spaces and taking into account the balance of voices as well as other constraints. You will be notified of your final assignment in late spring 2022.

Formules Ateliers Choralies 2022

You can choose the same workshop type (e.g. 3 long workshops), or mix your choices, as long as they are of the same duration and do not overlap and there is no break between them.

Formules Ateliers Choralies 2022

The workshops are divided into three categories:

  • Easy: You like to sing.
  • Medium: You are comfortable with scores, can memorize easily and have choral experience.
  • Advanced: You are a sight-reader and have good vocal technique.

Preparation is required for some workshops and may include studying scores, practising with an audio file, etc. The aim is to be able to work efficiently during the workshop for the pleasure of all participants.

In order to respect copyright regulations, workshop participants must use original scores. The use of photocopies is forbidden.

The scores required for a workshop will be indicated when the workshop assignment is confirmed.

To simplify things for you, “Éditions À Cœur Joie” publishing house sells sets of scores per workshop at preferential rates! They can be ordered in advance or purchased on site.

Concerts

Depending on the length of their registration, each Choralist (Adult or Youth and accompanying person) can attend concerts in the Théâtre Antique during their stay. Access is granted via your badge.

Each Choralist also gets a number of free tickets to afternoon concerts:

  • 8 days = 6 tickets
  • 7 days = 4 tickets
  • 5 or 6 days = 3 tickets
  • 3 or 4 days = 2 tickets
  • 1 or 2 days = 1 ticket
  • Volunteers get 4 tickets.
  • ”Passenger Singers” are not entitled to tickets.

Tickets are allocated through a series of envelopes prepared by the organizers. The tickets contained in these envelopes offer a wide range of dates, venues and musical styles from among the entire concert programme. The envelopes can be collected on arrival at the festival. If you wish to attend another show, tickets can be exchanged at the Box Office, subject to availability.

Workshop concerts generally consist of two parts involving two ensembles in succession. Members of one ensemble will not be able to attend the other’s concert directly, unless they have a ticket.

Please note that access to the Église Haute located in the historic part of Vaison-la-Romaine is very difficult for people with reduced mobility.

An online ticketing service will be available in spring 2022 via the website to reserve and order tickets for evening shows at the Théâtre Antique as well as for daytime concerts. Tickets can also be purchased at the festival Box Office set up in the Choralies Village.

Espace Juniors

The Espace Junior welcomes kids and teens from 4 to 17 years old with or without experience in choral singing. Participants have access to evenings in the Théâtre Antique on the days they are present. All Espace Juniors activities are held at the À Cœur Joie (Escapade) centre.

Depending on their age, they can participate in 3 types of activities:

The Ateliers Juniors are long 8-day workshops and require full registration at the Choralies. Rehearsals follow the same schedule as the adult workshops. Participants commit to partake in the planned daily schedule.

  • L21 (for rehearsed teenage choirs)
  • L22 (teens 12 to 17)
  • L23 (8 to 12 year olds)

Atelier Loisirs Enfants

This workshop offers leisure activities (sports, art, music…) for the day. It is reserved for children whose parents are registered as Choralists on the same days, thus allowing them to follow their own workshops without having to worry about childcare. Supervision is provided by volunteers who have experience in child care and children’s programmes. Activities will be adapted to the different age groups. Limited number of spaces.

Les Après-Midi Juniors (Afternoon Daycare)

Playful afternoon daycare can be reserved on site using a dedicated ticket (see below), on a day-to-day basis and subject to availability of spaces.

Based on the same rules as for adults, the Junior Choralists will be given “Junior Afternoon” tickets. These tickets allow them to participate either in Les Après-Midi Juniors activities or to exchange them for a Day concert ticket at the Box Office.

Catering

Catering services are specially set up in the centre of Vaison-la-Romaine during the Choralies. The catering space will be open from dinner on the evening of 3 August until breakfast on 12 August.

Tickets can be bought individually, but it is cheaper to register for a package deal:

  • “Full-board” package includes, for each day at the Choralies: dinner the night before, breakfast and lunch. This order cannot be changed.
  • “Half-board” package is available only for an 8-day stay and can be used either for all dinners (from 3 to 11 August), or for all lunches (from 4 to 11 August + dinner on 3 August), no combinations or changes possible. It includes breakfasts.

Meals include a varied choice of starters, main courses and desserts to satisfy all festival goers. Special dietary requirements can be taken into consideration on an individual basis on presentation of a medical certificate before the festival.

Choralies Campsite

An ephemeral camp site is set up during the Choralies, offering economical and local accommodations. Access is exclusively reserved for registered festival goers only for the day(s) on which their badge is valid.

Registration for camping does not include any meals.

All occupants must be registered at the Choralies and each person must pay the nightly rate. For individual tents or campers, you will have to specify the name of the site reservation ”holder” as well as the other accommodated people.

Registration at the Choralies campsite requires acceptance of the internal rules which can be consulted on our website (choralies.fr/documents) and which detail the times and conditions of arrival and reception, the rules and  regulations and the mandatory safety and security measures.

Other types of accommodation can be reserved on your own accord, without the intervention and responsibility of the organizers.

Three Types of Available Accommodations:

These modular structures can accommodate 10 to 12 people with a cot, mattress, chair and a rack with hangers for each individual. They do not have lighting or electrical outlets. Sheets, sleeping bags, blankets and pillows are not provided.

The organization will do its best, but cannot guarantee, to provide separate tents for men and women.

A 20€ deposit will be retained for the mattress upon your arrival at the campsite.

COVID adaptation

We are suspending the possibility of accommodation in a collective tent for individual participants. Sharing a sleeping space for several nights with people from different backgrounds and with no ties constitutes a health and organisational risk. The offer of camping in individual tents and motorhomes is maintained.

We are aware of the inconvenience this may involve for some and that the alternative solution may not be suitable for all. We will reassess the health situation for possible adaptation. Those already registered will be contacted.

The collective tent offer will be maintained as far as possible for the reception of constituted choirs (youth groups), without mixing of groups and under the responsibility of the choir.

You come with your own tent. As the allocated area is limited, its size must be adapted to the number of occupants and must not encroach on the space needed by the other campers (no awnings).

They must park on the dedicated municipal lot, within the limits of available spaces upon arrival. They can connect to the electrical network via their extension, empty waste water, however connection to the water network is not possible.
