Voices of the Baroque

Ready for a change of scenery? Uncover hidden gems of choral history and explore the soundscape of Baroque Europe, both a cappella and with a continuo group or other musicians. If this sounds like your kind of experience, this atelier is for you.

Voices of the Baroque

Join us on a musical journey through 17th and 18th-century Europe as we explore polyphonic styles from Spain, England, Italy, Germany, France and Portugal. During the Baroque era, European courts and chapels competed to outshine each other. They innovated with bold compositions and remarkable styles that you’ll bring back to life in this atelier. Featuring works by composers like Pergolesi, Buxtehude, Dumont and Melgás, this programme celebrates sacred music that mixes drama with deep emotional expression. You’ll get to feel the essence of each piece, crafted with a delicate balance of consonance and dissonance, and text-driven structures full of meaning.
While some pieces will be performed a cappella, others will be accompanied by four early music professionals on violins, viola da gamba and keyboard.
Think you know all there is to know about early music? Or maybe you’re new to Baroque but excited to discover something new? Either way, this atelier and its musical treasures are sure to captivate you – and might even spark a new passion. Come join us for a vocal adventure through the Baroque!

Biography

Benjamin Ingrao

Benjamin Ingrao started out studying violin and choral conducting at the Saint-Étienne Conservatory. He went on to specialise in early music singing at the Lyon Conservatory, where he earned his master’s degree in 2013. Benjamin regularly performs as a soloist with professional ensembles in France and abroad, and also sings in choirs led by renowned conductors. With a passion for both historically informed projects and unique sound experiences, Benjamin easily moves between musical styles from the Middle Ages to modern times. He is often invited to direct choirs, coach vocalists or teach masterclasses. In addition to his other activities, he has been a certified music teacher since 2019 and teaches at the Bourgoin-Jallieu Conservatory in southeast France.

Laure-Carlyne Crouzet

Laure-Carlyne Crouzet has a bachelor’s degree in modern literature and a master’s in musicology. She studied harpsichord with Françoise Lengellé at the Lyon Conservatory, where she graduated with top honours in 2010. Since then, she has worked with prestigious conductors as both a continuo player and soloist. In 2015, Laure-Carlyne founded Les Constellations, an ensemble that performs across Europe. Their goal is to rediscover the forgotten gems of French Baroque sacred and secular music. Since 2021, she has also been the artistic director of Festi Dombes, an international early music festival in southeast France. After completing her teaching training at HEM Geneva, she earned her harpsichord teaching qualification and trained in Dalcroze eurhythmics.
