We are thrilled to announce a special atelier for National Youth Choirs at the Choralies Festival. Specifically designed for National Youth Choirs, this inspiring and intense choral experience spans six days and will culminate in a grand performance during the festival’s closing ceremony.

Under the expert direction of Yuval Weinberg, chief conductor of the SWR Vokalensemble in Stuttgart, this atelier promises to be a festival highlight. Yuval, known for his dynamic leadership and innovative approach, will guide the singers through a diverse and challenging repertoire that showcases the passionate singing of young voices on an international stage.

The proposed repertoire, subject to refinement, includes Caroline Shaw’s Ochre, which blends modern choral textures with vibrant, shifting harmonies. Samuel Barber’s Agnus Dei, known for its profound serenity, contrasts with Alberto Grau’s Kasar Mie la Gaji, a rhythmic and urgent plea for peace. Per Nørgård’s Halleluja, der Herr ist verrückt introduces dramatic intensity with its avant-garde rhythms, while Gunnar Eriksson’s To the Mothers in Brazil: Salve Regina offers a reflective yet rhythmically engaging homage. The program may also feature Gustav Mahler’s Urlicht in Clytus Gottwald’s choral arrangement, combining lyrical expressiveness with spiritual depth. This evolving selection balances introspection with rhythmic vitality, promising an uplifting experience.

In collaboration with a percussive ensemble, this atelier will explore the integration of vocal and instrumental elements, enhancing the overall impact of the performance. The work with the percussive ensemble will add an additional layer of texture and energy to the final concert.

The atelier will run from August 2 to August 7, 2025, with rehearsals focused on creating a cohesive and powerful performance. Participating choirs will also have the opportunity to perform individually, including afternoon concerts and a special participation in the « Night of Choirs » event.

The final concert on August 7, held on the main stage of the historic antique theatre, will be a spectacular showcase of the collective talent of the National Youth Choirs, closing the festival with a performance that celebrates the future of choral music.

Let’s create an unforgettable musical experience. Participants will be expected to prepare the repertoire in advance, ensuring that every moment of rehearsal time can be fully utilized to achieve the highest level of performance.

Join us for this exceptional choral adventure at Choralies 2025.
