This atelier invites you to experience the sacred music of Johann Sebastian Bach. From the famous Chorale du veilleur to chorale and chorales from cantatas yet to be discovered, let yourself be transported into the art of composition by the Leipzig Cantor.
These selected excerpts, accessible to the widest possible audience, will enable you to explore the polyphony of Baroque music in all its stylistic diversity, and to experience unique emotions: a jewel box of music to which Philippe Mendes will invite you with talent and kindness.
The chorale, with its vertical writing, gathers and unites voices to make a text heard in a very direct way, understandable by everyone. Johann Sebastian Bach is the undisputed master of contrapuntal music. By distributing melodic lines to the different voices, he exploits the sacred texts, extracting feelings from them and making each section sing like a character. Through the interplay of these melodic lines, the genius of the German Baroque manages to touch us at the deepest level of our being. This music leaves no one indifferent; listeners and singers alike are transfixed by the music of the great Bach.
