Blending folk tradition and creation in Provence

Explore the lively spirit of French Provençal music, where poetry, harmonies, movement and voices all come together. This atelier is your chance to connect the past with the present – and maybe even help shape the traditions of the future.

Blending folk tradition and creation in Provence

The vocal ensemble “Tant que li siam” has put together a contemporary polyphonic repertoire based on the local poetry of the Mont Ventoux area. From oral tradition, they’ve created music with a lively Mediterranean vibe.
Through their songs, Marie-Madeleine will introduce you to the musical heritage of southeast France and the fun of creating something new.
Experience the essence of oral tradition as we pass on music without sheet music, adapting it to modern harmonies as we go. To make our singing truly shine, we’ll work on our group sound, rhythm, timbre and interpretation. You’ll get hands-on with the creative process, working together to craft a polyphonic and polyrhythmic piece based on provided poetry.
We’ll start each day by focusing on key aspects of vocal technique like posture, breathing, resonance, support and listening.

Since 2015, Marie-Madeleine has been exploring how the body itself can be an instrument. She has trained in the art of transmission with Emmanuel Pesnot and in various workshops. Marie-Madeleine composes and performs with groups Bande à KoustiK, Tant que li siam and Madalena.
