Discover vocal jazz

Let’s sing Jazz together, to express our “Swing”, our “Blues”, and why not improvise? Prerequisites: a body, ears, a voice and a smile!

Discover vocal jazz

To ensure a good balance of voices, we will no longer accept Alto, Mezzo or Soprano registrations for this atelier. Registrations made between 11/25 and 12/1 will be validated.

How does singing jazz differ from singing a cantata or a variété song?
Together, we’ll explore some of the gateways to this style, and the codes associated with it.
Swing, or the relationship between a very regular pulse (jazz is danceable!), and a bouncing rhythm and accentuation. This will be an opportunity to make music with our whole bodies, not just our voices.
What does Blues mean to jazz(wo)men? It’s a feeling, a melodic style, a codified harmonic structure, which enables musicians who don’t know each other to play together on the fly.
It’s also a gateway to the notion of improvisation. We all improvise in our everyday lives, and it’s just as natural in music. I’ll suggest a few games to help you improvise without looking like you’re doing it, and give you a taste for inventing with your voice, and connecting with each other through sound.
Finally, we’ll sing a few polyphonies, to swing together and sound out the harmonies and colors that are also the charm of this music, all in good humor, listening and vocal relaxation.
