Vocal jazz – Swing, harmonies and improv

Come and sing along as we (re)discover “Jazz” through its most fundamental elements: swing, blues, standards, harmonies and the notion of improvisation. It’s all in good fun!

Vocal jazz – Swing, harmonies and improv

To ensure a good balance of voices, we will no longer accept Alto, Mezzo or Soprano registrations for this atelier. Registrations made between 11/25 and 12/1 will be validated.

What is jazz? A question we’ll explore together through practice:
Swing is all about listening, but it’s also about the body, and that can be useful in any style. Hands and feet exercises included! The blues, a form of expression that infuses jazz, will be our gateway to the notion of improvisation: with the voice, sometimes you just have to go for it. You can’t go wrong, because nothing is written down! Above all, we’ll try to name sensations, so as to be more aware and autonomous in the time that unfolds, and never again get “lost in the grid”. We’ll learn songs, or standards, to play the different roles of a jazzman: singing the theme, accompanying, improvising. This will be an opportunity to make jazz idiomatic harmonies, colors and delicious dissonances ring out. On the vocal front, we’ll be looking for relaxation, and the blending of sounds through listening. Our aim: to have fun and become a little vocal big band so we can perform with a smile.
