The World Youth Choir is a choir unlike any other. Every year, it joins the voices of exceptional young singers from all over the world, selected through competitive international auditions.

At the Choralies 2025, this prestigious choir will open the festival against the imposing backdrop of the Roman theatre of Vaison-la-Romaine. After the choir’s acclaimed performance in 2019, they’re back with a new programme showcasing the enthusiasm and energy of young international talents.

This session is directed by the world-class conductor Daniel Reuss. Daniel has been the artistic director of Cappella Amsterdam since 1990 and made himself a name by leading some of Europe’s most prestigious ensembles, including RIAS Kammerchor and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. His demanding but sensitive approach has earned him widespread recognition, and promises to make every note of this concert unforgettable. Under Daniel’s baton, the World Youth Choir will present a rich and vibrant programme where high-level singing meets emotional depth.

World Youth Choir

The World Youth Choir (WYC) is an international vocal ensemble founded in 1989 that gathers up to 100 exceptional young singers every year, selected through competitive auditions around the world. Supported by the European Choral Association, the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM) and Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI), the WYC fosters cultural understanding and artistic exchange. The WYC is recognised for its work promoting peace and unity, performing at prestigious events like the Olympic Games and the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. In 1996, the choir was recognised as a UNESCO Artist for Peace, confirming its role as a cultural and musical ambassador. Directed by world-class conductors, the WYC offers its singers a musical, learning and intercultural experience unlike any other. During each WYC session, the young singers have the opportunity to perform in prestigious venues around the world and celebrate cultural diversity through music.

Daniel Reuss

Daniel Reuss is a renowned Dutch choir director known for collaborating with prestigious vocal ensembles throughout Europe. He studied choral conducting with Barend Schuurman at the Rotterdam Conservatory. In 1990, he became the artistic director of Cappella Amsterdam, which he turned into a sought-after professional ensemble and with whom he recorded works by Sweelinck, Janáček and others. Daniel has also directed the RIAS Kammerchor of Berlin (2003–2006) and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir (2008–2013), recording CDs awarded the “Diapason d’Or” and “Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik” distinctions. In 2015, he became the chief conductor of the Ensemble Vocal Lausanne. He is recognised for his ability to direct varied repertoires, from early music all the way to contemporary works. Daniel has collaborated with many renowned ensembles including the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and MusikFabrik, and has taught at the Lucerne Festival Academy.
